Gastric Emptying Rate in Patients with Peptic Ulcer Disease and the Effect of Clebopride Malate

Abstract
Gastric emptying rate in patients gastric or duodenal ulcer disease was studied using the acetaminophen method. And the effect of clebopride malate on gastric emptying in peptic ulcer patients was observed.
The subjects consisted of 19 normal subjects, 12 gastric ulcer patients and 18 duodenal ulcer patients.
As an indicator of gastric emptying rate, the plasma acetaminophen concentration was measured by dye method at 60 minutes after ingestion of acetaminophen.
1) The serum acetaminophen concentrations in gastric ulcer patients was 12.1¡¾4.l¥ìg/ml,which was significantly lower than those in normal subjects(19.3¡¾3.9ug/ml) (p<0.0005), showing delayed gastric emptying in gastric ulcer patients.
2) The serum acetaminophen concentrations in duodenal ulcer patients was 17.86¡¾12.48 ¥ìg/ml Comparing with normal subjects, the difference was not significant, suggesting no derangement of gastric emptying in duodenal ulcer patients.
3) Clebopride malate accelerate the delayed gastric emptying rate in gastric ulcer patients, which was judged by the finding that the serum acetaminophen concentration was increased significantly from 12.05¡¾4.1 ¥ìg/ml to 21.6¡¾7.04¥ìg/ml with prior treatment of clebopride malate(p<0.0005) .
But the gastric emptying rates in duodenal ulcer patients was not accelerated with prior treatment of clebopride melate.
